Andromeda granted first patent for proprietary HPA process
Andromeda Metals Limited (ASX: ADN) (Andromeda, the Company) is pleased to announce the
Company's first patent relating to its proprietary process to produce High Purity Alumina (HPA) and/or
Smelter-Grade Alumina (SGA) has been granted by the Republic of South Africa.
The South African patent is the first in a portfolio of national patent applications and covers Andromeda's
novel alumina production process, which underpins the Company's HPA Project.
The milestone follows Andromeda’s recent announcements on the successful pilot-scale production of HPA
with a measured purity of 99.9986%1, and the signing of a strategic HPA Supply Heads of Agreement with
Traxys North America to advance a strategic pathway for the supply of HPA into the United States2.
Andromeda’s proprietary HPA process has been developed after over 8 years of research, testing and
process optimisation, using kaolin sourced from its Great White Project.
Andromeda’s proprietary technology forms the foundation of the Company's strategy to participate in the
growing global market for HPA, a critical material used in lithium-ion batteries, LEDs, semiconductors,
synthetic sapphire and advanced ceramics.
The Company’s 2025 HPA Scoping Study3 assessed a staged development of up to 10,000 tonnes per
annum, with a pre-tax NPV10 of approximately A$1.48 billion and average annual EBITDA of approximately
A$247 million, highlighting the potential scale and value of the HPA opportunity.
The granting of the South African patent is the first patent issued within Andromeda's broader portfolio of
national patent applications derived from its international Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application.
The Company continues to progress the remaining applications in other jurisdictions and will update
shareholders as material developments occur.
The patent has been granted to the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Andromeda Technologies
Holdings Pty Ltd.
Andromeda’s Acting CEO, Sarah Clarke said:
"The granting of the first national patent is an important milestone in the development of Andromeda's High
Purity Alumina business and validates the originality of our proprietary technology.
“Protecting our intellectual property is a key component of our commercialisation strategy. This patent
strengthens Andromeda's competitive position as we advance our HPA Project and seek to establish a
new, low-cost and low-carbon pathway for producing HPA from kaolin.
